About

Rachel Ring began as a Fine Art student at Solent University then switched to a degree in Art & Design History before completing an MA in Book Arts at the University of Arts London, Camberwell. A decade later, she pursued another degree in Theatre Design at London Metropolitan University, graduating with first class honours and developing site-specific performance and promenade work .

Alongside her hospitality career, she’s undertaken illustration projects on paper and glass, delivered children’s gallery and festival workshops, and developed bespoke stationery and prints.

Now based in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, she maintains her interest in scenic and constructed forms, focusing on the sculptural and portable potential of paper, working with pen and ink, photography, concrete, plaster and thread to create tactile, engaging and narrative-driven works.

A starting point for her work is often inspired by the repurposing of materials and objects that already exist. Themes of interest include the structural forms of buildings and how they shape us; stories and histories within and behind walls; domestic environments and our relationship to everyday objects (stuff!); human narratives and the performative rituals that shape daily life.
